Tech Headlines: Musk's Sky-high OpenAI Bid Rejected; Ernie Bot Adds New Model

Recently, both the tech and entertainment industries have seen a series of eye-catching developments. First, regarding AI giant OpenAI, rumors said Tesla CEO Elon Musk offered as much as US$97.4 billion to acquire the company's operating assets. The news quickly drew wide attention and could profoundly affect the AI industry. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded humorously on social media that he had no intention of selling, and instead made a counter-offer to buy Twitter for US$9.74 billion. Meanwhile, OpenAI made new progress on its in-house chips, aiming to reduce reliance on suppliers such as Nvidia. It reportedly plans to tape out its first in-house AI chip at TSMC in the first half of the year, moving toward mass production by 2026. Despite the challenges of tape-out and costs of tens of millions of dollars each time, OpenAI remains internally optimistic about the project.
